Forgot one from Saturday:
“Undead or Alive: A Zombedy“–a Western zombie comedy romance buddy midnight film–uh, yeh, maybe not
Sunday got off to a slow start film-wise due to an unfortunate side trip to the emergency room. (Everyone’s OK; no lasting damage.)
“He Was A Quiet Man” (WP)–interesting, uneven
“King Corn” (WP)–excellent. a must-see!–sodas came in cups with a cheesy King Corn logo and the tag line “you’re drinking it!”–finally got The Child’s attention about what I’ve been saying about avoiding foods with high fructose corn syrup
Monday got off to a slow start for me due to the whole work thing and due to trying to get a friend into the second and last showing of “King Corn.” You know it’s a good one when the Monday 2pm showing is so full that not all badges get in!
“Quiet City” (WP)–from the folks who brought you “Dance Party USA” last year–’nuff said
“Fall From Grace” (WP)–scary people in Topeka–good, but I wanted more back story on these people up front–an amazing effort for 3 hours of credit
“Flakes” (WP)–the guys from Jersey sitting next to me said that they had walked in looking for a comedy (and due to their extreme fondness for a venue where you can have a beer while watching a movie), and they were somewhat disappointed to find a chick flick/date movie (some dispute about which they felt it was)–I thought it was charming and funny, and I’d recommend it for anyone looking for some entertainment
Tuesday got off to a great start, but then that whole work thing kicked in and left me with little time for films….
“Steal a Pencil for Me“ (WP)–a really excellent triumph of the human spirit movie–happens to start around the time of the Shoah, but not really so much about the Shoah as about a great love lasting through almost impossible circumstances
“Confessions of a Superhero” (WP)–I felt embarrassed to see into these people’s lives–particularly because a couple of them were at the screening–I wouldn’t recommend it unless you are into schadenfruede
Started Wednesday (that’s today, right?) with
“The Chances of the World Changing“ (RP)–fascinating, thought provoking, highly recommended–for me, it was much more about self-assessment than about herps
OK, speaking of the whole work thing: Back to it!
