The Child accompanied me to Schlitterbahn today. We haven’t been together in years, so I was looking forward to this before he flies the coop, but it was strangely unsatisfying for precisely the reason that I though it would be great. There were no crowds, which seemed like a plus, but it was kind of weird that we had done all the rides we were looking forward to by 2pm. A few changes threw us off the rhythm, too.

Last night, we went to see Japanese “Spiderman” in Foleyvision with special guest Fred Newman at Alamo Downtown, Read the rest of this entry »

The Branagh Hamlet is being released on DVD in August. At long last! We were watching his Much Ado About Nothing after starting out on a rather dreary (but more complete and thus not entirely unprofitable) BBC version, so I was reminded to check. I also ordered the 2000 version, which is brilliant in other ways, but can’t get on netflix. Maybe I’ll have a double feature night. No, it would have to be a double feature day, as Branagh’s is already 4 hours.

The ACL Fest line-up is also out. Dylan. The Decemberists. Other folks. I’m pleased.

And the Toronto Int’l Film Fest finally announced the opening movie and when tix go on sale. I don’t even know how long it lasts, and the schedule isn’t published until a week before the start date. It’s a different scheme from SxSW, so I’m not sure how to maximize the benefit of going. If I go. Bad timing work-wise. Maybe. Who knows what life will be like by then with the new hires?

Most of my life has been outside the bounds I established for posting, so please forgive the long silence and know that I wasn’t neglecting to think about blogging, just didn’t have anything blog-able in my life.

My age changes soon, but I haven’t decided what it will change to. A good friend always thinks I’m turning 42, because I did that once and it stuck in his brain. So I’m think of going back to that as a memory aid to him. Or maybe I’ll skip ahead to 52, so that I’ll look really fabulous for my age. Ideas, thoughts, suggestions?

I do know that I’ll be celebrating turning whatever age at Nutty Brown Cafe while listening to Will Taylor and Strings Attached recreate Sgt. Pepper’s. White Album was so much fun last year! So if you are there and see a woman wearing a tiara, say “Happy Birthday” to me.
